About teddy bears
The term ‘teddy bear’ was first used in 1902 when the then President of the United States Theodore ‘Teddy’ Roosevelt, refused to shoot a tethered bear while on a hunting trip. The papers were full of cartoons about this – coining the term ‘teddy’s bear’. Soon after, an enterprising American company made a soft toy bear and displayed it with the cartoon – and the teddy bear was born.
