Carried out: In house % Response: 56
Survey period: April 2004
Outcome: The Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Travel Plan (for staff in the town centre) was approved in 2003. The Plan set down targets for numbers of staff cycling, walking, using public transport or car sharing on their journeys to work and whilst carrying out Council business. A number of actions and incentives were included to encourage staff. One year on (May 2004) a survey of staff was carried out to find out if the travel plan had influenced their travel behaviour. The survey revealed that increasing numbers of TWBC staff are turning away from using the car on their own to travel to work and are turning to greener forms of transport. A total of 43% now walk, car share, cycle or use public transport. In 2003 the figure was 34%. The Borough Council is well on the way to meeting its target of 50% by 2008. The survey also helped identify which actions are most likely to influence staff and continue the excellent progress made so far.
